Aclam Club will host on April 30 the masterclass-conversation “Why don’t you ever play the guitar properly?” with Adrian Utley, who will engage in a dialogue with David Soler about new ways of understanding sound and the guitar, closing the session with a joint improvisation.

Aclam Club in Barcelona will host on April 30 a masterclass in conversation format led by Adrian Utley, British musician and producer renowned for his work with Portishead and for his influence on contemporary music.

Considered a key figure in Anglo-Saxon pop and experimental music since the 1990s, Utley has developed a career that transcends the boundaries of rock, jazz and electronic music. In addition to his work with Portishead, he has collaborated with artists such as Jeff Beck, Patti Smith, Jarvis Cocker, Massive Attack, Thom Yorke, PJ Harvey, Thurston Moore, Beth Gibbons, Philip Selway, Squarepusher, Glenn Branca and Marc Ribot, among many others.

He has also composed music for film and audiovisual projects, with works such as Sound by Nic Roeg and Spiders from Mars by David Attenborough.

In this session, Utley will be joined in conversation by David Soler, guitarist, producer and member of El Extintor, a prominent figure on the Barcelona scene whose career combines studio work, musical direction and collaborations with artists from different fields.

The masterclass-conversation will invite attendees to delve into the way Utley conceives sound and the guitar, exploring new sonic possibilities beyond conventional techniques: timbre, texture, space, electronics and the relationship between technology and musical expression. The session will conclude with a joint improvisation by Adrian Utley and David Soler.

This activity is part of a new Aclam Club series dedicated to conversations with creators and guitarists, conceived as an intimate space for dialogue and exchange of ideas between artists and audiences.
